How iRacing, NASCAR and Fox will make this Sunday a race day – The Athletic

Like most of NASCAR’s national series, Jeff Gordon was already at Atlanta Motor Speedway eight days ago for his Fox Sports broadcasting duties when NASCAR announced it had postponed the race weekend and the following race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

In the days prior to NASCAR’s decision and the days that followed, it became apparent that the sports world faced a prolonged standstill due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. NASCAR joined the NBA, NHL, MLB and a long list of leagues that have suspended operations as the world tries to stem this outbreak. Games and races have been postponed or outright canceled as people are being told not to gather in large groups and to limit physical contact. No races to call, no live sporting events to broadcast.

Those missing races created a void, and NASCAR, iRacing and Fox Sports have worked quickly to fill it.
