Rogue One’s Scarif will be the final Star Wars: Battlefront 2 update – Polygon

Star Wars Battlefront 2’s next major update will be its last. Developer DICE says with the addition of the planet Scarif from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, “the vision” for the 2017 Star Wars shooter “is now complete.”

“Since launch, we’ve brought new content in the form of free updates to the entire player base, delivering immersive Star Wars battles you can play solo, with friends, and against others across the entire Skywalker Saga,” DICE creative director Dennis Brännvall said on the official Battlefront website. “This vision will now be realized as we complete our return to the Age of Rebellion, which we started on February.”

This update will mark the inclusion of content from every Star Wars movie, including the anthology spinoffs, which is a pretty impressive array. Battlefront 2 launched with content from the original trilogy, the prequels, and the sequels, and later added content from Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Rise of Skywalker, and The Clone Wars animated series.

After the release of Scarif and some new Rise of Skywalker appearances (Rey with her yellow lightsaber, Kylo Ren wearing his reforged mask with the hood up, and Emperor Palpatine’s latest set of robes) on April 29, DICE is moving on.

“We’re transitioning to a phase where the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events such as Double XP and more, and game support will carry this broad and rich Star Wars gaming experience into the future,” Brännvall said. “This means that we’re moving away from delivering regular content updates. As the game lives on with the players and our community, we’re looking forward to hearing your stories for years to come.”

DICE’s other big multiplayer shooter, Battlefield 5, will also be updated one final time over the summer. The studio is moving on; Electronic Arts has confirmed that the next Battlefield game will be released in 2021.
